Central Iowa Shelter and Services

Since 1992, Central Iowa Shelter & Services' mission is to provide free shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions, and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency. Approximately 2,000 homeless women and men have received emergency shelter and supportive services to help them move beyond homelessness each year.



Children & Family Urban Movement

CFUM is an organization devoted to serving children and families in urban Des Moines by providing meals, tutoringMembers of First Baptist Church serve a Taco Supper at CFUM on the 2nd Thursday on alternating months. Youth and other groups within the church frequently serve at CFUM by cleaning the facility, providing tutoring during the after-school program, and more!



Des Moines Area Religious Council

First Baptist Church is a charter member of the Des Moines Area Religious Council and supports the ministries of this organization through financial support and involvement in projects. Members of First Baptist Church frequently collect food at Red Barrel collection sites in the fall. Many individuals and groups from First Baptist Church work at the DMARC Food Pantry warehouse to sort and distribute food to the various food pantries across the metro area. Each 3rd Sunday is Food Pantry Sunday at FBC in which money and food items are collected to be delivered to the DMARC food pantries.




Johnston Partnership

The Johnston Partnership is an organization that serves our immediate community by providing clothes, food, and youth mentoring by networking our school, community, and families. It is supported by a volunteer board and is funded by businesses, churches, and individuals in the Johnston area.



Johnston Piecemakers of Project Linus

The Johnston Piecemakers meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:30-4:30pm and 6:30-9pm to create quilts for Project Linus. These quilts are delivered to children and adults in need of comfort, such as the Ronald McDonald House and Blank Children's Hospital.



Meals from the Heartland

Each fall various groups from First Baptist work at Hy-Vee Hall creating bags of meals for Meals from the Heartland. This is a fun, exciting way to feed the hungry in our community and around the world.



The Salvation Army

First Baptist Church has historically had a close connection with the ministries of the Des Moines Salvation Army through staff and members of FBC that serve as Board members and staff with the Salvation Army. The youth of FBC frequently volunteer with Salvation Army ministries. Many individuals and groups financially support and volunteer with the Salvation Army in Des Moines.
