Expecting mothers in central Africa will get supplies for their newborns in a birthing kit made and assembled by women at the First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines.
Lydia Circle, a group of women who meet for Christian fellowship, recently completed 16 kits that will be sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Each kit contains a receiving blanket, a newborn cap and gown, and a plastic sheet. These items promote a safe, clean delivery and encourage good aftercare.
The birthing kit project is carried out by Lydia Circle in partnership with the White Cross and International Ministries of the American Baptist Women Ministry.
First Baptist Church has three circles: Lydia, Martha and Ruth. These groups offer women a community of friends within the church. Their monthly meetings include Bible study and devotion, service projects, fellowship and refreshments. For more information about circles and how to get involved, please contact the church office, (515) 243-8161 or office@fbcdsm.org
