Rev. Dr. Tim Deatrick, Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Tim Deatrick began his ministry as Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church on January 2, 2012. A native of Missouri, Pastor Tim grew up in a Pastor's home. He graduated from Hannibal La Grange University in 1986, and began his first full time ministry position at Tower Grove Baptist Church in urban St. Louis, Missouri, that same year. He served there as Associate Pastor for four years and spent the last five years as Senior Pastor. Pastor Tim then accepted a call to serve Haltom Road Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. Following the completion of his first graduate degree, he had a church planting experience in Bentonville, Arkansas, one of the fasted growing communities in America. in 2005, Pastor Tim came to Central Iowa to serve as Lead Pastor of Ashworth Road Baptist Church in West Des Moines.

Pastor Tim graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, and earned a Master's Degree in Divinity with Biblical Languages and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Proclamation. He brings nearly three decades of pastoral ministry experience to our congregation.

Tim married his wife Lisa in 1985, and they are blessed with three children. Ryan is a senior at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa; Lauren is a freshman at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion; and Shannon is a freshman at Waukee High School. Lisa is a Kindergarten teacher in the West Des Moines Community School District.

Ben Holthaus, Music Director

Ben Holthaus was raised on a farm near Martelle, Iowa. From Drake University he holds Bachelor degrees in both Music Education and Performance. He attended Temple University in Philadelphia where he received Masters degrees in Music Theory and Performance. Returning to Iowa he taught vocal music in Burlington and Waukee, experiencing every level from Kindergarten through high school. He formerly taught oboe students at Simpson College. Ben came to First Baptist as a bass section leader and assumed the role of director from his predecessor, Dr. Marion Hall, in 1989. Ben currently teaches sixth grade in Waukee where he resides with his wife, Wanda, and sons, Harrison and Dmitriy.

DeeAnn Doherty, Preschool & Children's Director

DeeAnn Doherty joined the First Baptist Church Staff in September, 2012. A native Texan, DeeAnn is responsible for ministry to children between the ages of birth and grade 5. She attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and has broad experience with children in both the public and private sector. DeeAnn is married to her husband Greg and together they have two teenagers who attend Johnston Schools.

Wendy Longden, Administrative Assistant

Wendy Longden has served as our Administrative Assistant since April, 2012. She is responsible for office management and administration, and serves as our receptionist. A native Iowan, Wendy and her husband Eric are the proud parents of three children.

Mike Foley, Property Manager

 Mike has served as Property Manager at FBC for over 9 years.  He comes with a lot of experience in maintenance and facility work.  Mike resides with his wife, Tami, and their daughter, Emma, in Dallas Center.

Anne Boal, Organist

Anne has served as the organist and choir accompanist for First Baptist Church since December 2005.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Education, a Master of Music Education degree, and a Master of Music in Music Performance.  Anne teaches band and string instruments for grades 4-8 in elementary and middle schools in the Des Moines Public School District.  She has worked in Des Moines since 1985.  Anne is married to William Boal.

Angie Loney, Handbell Choir Director

Angie Montheith Loney has been the handbell choir director at FBC since February 2006.  She holds degrees in music education and elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master's Degree from Viterbo University.  During the week, Angie teaches K-6 vocal and general music in West Des Moines.  In her spare time she enjoys playing the piano, reading, shopping and spending time with her husband and three children at their home in West Des Moines.
